AdBlue In Diesel

All over Staffordshire we are identifying a growing number of examples of AdBlue contamination whereby a motorist has poured AdBlue into their diesel fuel tank. This is mostly due to drivers being unsure of the way to work with it (please note: it is in reality not a fuel additive), and to some extent simply because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly next to one another on the car.

Now, exactly what is the matter with having AdBlue in the diesel vehicle? Seeing as AdBlue is mostly ionised water, it's like putting water in your tank. Diesel and water tend not to blend in the least and attempting to run a diesel car on water will never work. Furthermore, the urea is highly corrosive to your fuel system lines and seals and is at risk of crystalising, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

If perhaps you poured AdBlue into the fuel tank remove it at the earliest opportunity. And absolutely don't crank the car - not even to relocate it away from the pump. If you have started the car you will almost certainly have to have the full fuel system flushed and filters changed out.

Fuel contaminated with water

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it is unleaded or diesel, is generally a significant situation to deal with in a motor vehicle - specifically in modern-day common-rail engines.
